THE HAPPY
couple
BIRB & GANGLE
Raven’s college friends called her a bird, on account of her namesake. Christian’s friends called him a gangle, on account of his ludicrously long limbs. They’ve reclaimed these playful monikers and repurposed them to represent their love. Their friends probably roll their eyes indulgently at how cutesy it is.
Raven and Christian were a year apart at Occidental College, and did not run in the same circles (think: theater geeks conga-lining down the halls of the dorm vs. water polo hazing horror stories, respectively). They first crossed paths at a party in 2014, and Raven took one look at his bad mustache and turned the other way.* Two years later they re-met at a friend’s housewarming party. Christian loved her metallic gold oxfords (i.e. boogie shoes), and Raven loved his appreciation of fashion. They dated enthusiastically for four months before breaking up—but Christian quickly realized his mistake, and so we do not begrudge him this.

Four years of joint pug parenthood, three years of law school, two years of cohabitation in a treehouse, and one year of quarantine later, Raven and Christian are going stronger than ever. Not to brag, but their premarital counselor waxes poetic about how solid a couple they are, and how well they complement each other despite their many differences. They’re so excited to be confessing their love to each other in a very public, official, bureaucratic manner with all of you.
RAVEN
is 28, and a highly anxious graphic designer/illustrator/art director extraordinaire. She can’t wait to pursue her dream of becoming an art therapist. She’s lived in LA her whole life, and has never wanted to leave, except for grad school, which will be a two-year exception to the rule. She got Christian into Dungeons & Dragons, and when she’s not getting too attached to fictional characters in her D&D campaigns (and books, and TV, and movies—) she’s rewatching Gilmore Girls, planning wacky outfits, or experiencing existential dread.
Raven’s favorite things about Christian are his ambition, his passion, his goofiness, and his eyes.
CHRISTIAN
is 29, and a highly anxious attorney at Kirkland & Ellis. He’s originally from Michigan, but fell in love with the LA weather when he came to play water polo at Oxy. In his free time (which is very little, due to the whole lawyer thing), he loves to GM Pathfinder, shop for fly shoes and patterned shirts, and cook really good food. When he’s not talking Raven down from an existential crisis, you can find him reading One Piece, playing DOTA with his friends, or walking the bass.
Christian’s favorite things about Raven are her empathy, her compassion, her kind heart, and her rockin’ booty.
